What you study in an AI bachelor

A good programme should build mathematics, programming and data before machine learning. At AI2, the first year has 420 guided hours, about 14 hours a week, with labs in small groups:

  • Year 1. Maths, Python, SQL, Git, Linux, data visualisation and a first Flask web app in the Data & AI track; computing, networks, sensors and PLCs in the Industrial IT track.
  • Year 2. Linear algebra, probability, advanced SQL, MongoDB, Power BI, Tableau and cloud data in the Data & AI track; data engineering, APIs, machine learning, industrial protocols and IIoT in the Industrial IT track.
  • Year 3. A professional final year with a company placement, preparing a French Ministry of Labour title at Level 6.

There are two final-year routes: the BSc AI-Powered Application Development (RNCP37873) and the BSc Data Analytics & Applied AI (RNCP41370). The full module list is on the Bachelor in Applied AI page.

How to check that a bachelor is recognised

Campus France states that the value of a French diploma is guaranteed by the State when it is a national diploma, a diploma approved by the Ministry, or a title registered in the RNCP, the national directory of professional certifications. Before you pay a deposit:

  1. Ask which of these three categories the programme belongs to.
  2. For an RNCP title, look up the code on the France Compétences website and check that the entry is active.
  3. Confirm the language of every year, not only the first.
  4. Ask how many teaching hours are guaranteed each year, and whether the final year includes a placement.

At AI2, Years 1 and 2 are foundation years, and the French State title is prepared in Year 3, where passing every competency block is required. See is AI2 recognised for the full detail.

This is an AI2 calculation, and living costs near Paris can be higher than the legal minimum. See the cost of studying AI in France and bachelor scholarships.

Visa and work while you study

Students from outside the EU arrive with a long-stay student visa and validate it online within three months. You can work up to 964 hours a year. Admission to a school does not guarantee a visa, and no school can promise one. Every step is on the visa guidance page.

After the bachelor

Graduates can look for junior roles in software, data or applied AI, or continue their studies. Any AI2 BSc graduate progresses to MSc Year 1, for example the MSc Applied AI and Data Science. If you want to stay in France, note that the one-year job-search permit is open to master’s-level graduates, among others, so most bachelor’s graduates continue to a master’s first.
