Already hold an MCA and thinking about a master’s in France? How French institutions read a Master of Computer Applications, why it can shorten your route, which AI2 formats it opens in data science, cybersecurity and IoT, what each format costs in rupees, and how to explain a second master’s at your visa interview.
How does France read an MCA?
As a master’s, on the strength of an intergovernmental agreement, with the final word left to each institution.
France and India signed an agreement on the mutual recognition of academic qualifications in 2018, during President Macron’s first state visit to India; it came into force in 2019. Campus France India lists the pairs of qualifications it treats as comparable. One of them is the master’s degree in India and the master’s and master’s-level degree in France. On the Indian side, the agreement covers degrees from members of the Association of Indian Universities and from institutions approved, recognised or accredited by the Indian authorities to award degrees. Professional degrees that give the right to practise, such as law or medicine, are excluded; an MCA is not in that category.
So the French reading of an MCA is clear at the level of the diploma: you have completed a second cycle. What it does not settle is the content. Campus France’s page on French degrees is explicit that each institution defines its own admission criteria and that only the host institution can accept or refuse an applicant. Recognition agreements make equivalence requests easier; they do not replace the academic review of your subjects, credits and projects.
Do you need an ENIC-NARIC attestation?
Sometimes. Campus France explains that the French ENIC-NARIC centre can issue an attestation stating the French value of a foreign degree. The attestation is not an equivalence in itself, but some institutions require it; Campus France gives a cost of €120 per request. Ask the institution whether it wants one before you pay: many admissions teams read Indian degrees directly under the bilateral agreement. AI2 asks for degree certificates and transcripts, with certified translations where needed, and for direct Year 2 the course list or syllabus of your previous degree.
Why would an MCA holder take a master’s in France?
Not to repeat what you know, but to add what an MCA rarely covers in depth.
An MCA already gives you programming, databases, software engineering and often a final project. A French master’s makes sense when it adds something specific: a specialisation in applied AI, data science, cybersecurity or IoT; a six-month internship in a French company; and, once you hold a master’s-level diploma obtained in France, access to the French permits for graduates described further down.
That reasoning is also the answer to the question you are almost certain to face. At the Campus France academic interview you are asked to explain your study project, and a second master’s invites the follow-up why another one? A strong answer names the gap (for example, production machine learning, industrial security or connected systems), the format you chose and why its length fits, and the job you aim for afterwards. Rehearse it aloud before the interview.

Which AI2 route does an MCA open?
Three formats lead to the same professional title; your previous degree decides which ones you can choose.
AI2’s MSc pages describe three formats. The two-year MSc is for holders of a three-year bachelor’s. The direct entry into Year 2 (18 months) is for holders of a related four- or five-year degree, subject to academic review. The Fast-Track February (11 months) exists only for the MSc Applied AI and Data Science and is aimed at engineers and master’s holders. The Data Science admissions table is the one that names a master’s directly: a four-year accredited B.Tech or BE, or a master’s, with Python, statistics and SQL foundations, leads to the Fast-Track or to the 18-month direct entry.
| Track | Formats open to a related master’s | What the programme page says | Intakes |
|---|---|---|---|
| MSc Applied AI and Data Science | Fast-Track 11 months, or direct entry 18 months | Master’s in a related field; Python, statistics and SQL checked at interview | Fast-Track: February 2027 only; direct entry: February, May, September 2027 |
| MSc Applied AI & Cybersecurity | Direct entry 18 months | Related four- or five-year degree; Python and machine-learning foundations checked at interview | February, May, September 2027 |
| MSc Applied AI & IoT | Direct entry 18 months | Related four- or five-year degree, subject to academic review; no Fast-Track in IoT | February, May, September 2027 |
For cybersecurity and IoT, the pages speak of a related four- or five-year degree rather than naming a master’s. With a three-year bachelor’s followed by a two-year MCA, ask admissions to confirm in writing that your file is reviewed for the 18-month route. The two-year MSc remains available as a full route: the format chooser on the Data Science page lists a full foundation year first among the priorities you can pick, which suits an MCA holder whose degree had little data or networking content.
Inside the 18-month direct entry into Year 2
Twelve months of study at the Year 2 level, then six months in a company.
The direct entry is not a shortened Year 2. You join the specialisation year directly and complete it with online platform modules and a company project, so that the total before the internship matches the two-year route. Each programme page states the split:
| Track | Year 2 on campus | Online platform modules | Company project | Total before the internship |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Data Science | 500 h | 280 h (DataCamp, IBM, SAS) | 220 h | 1,000 h in 12 months |
| Cybersecurity | 500 h | 280 h (Cisco Networking Academy, DataCamp) | 220 h | 1,000 h in 12 months |
| IoT | 420 h | 260 h (Cisco Networking Academy, DataCamp) | 240 h | 920 h in 12 months |
- 1Months 1 to 12: the 1,000-hour phaseYear 2 courses on the Écouen campus, 22 minutes from Paris Gare du Nord, alongside guided online paths assigned by the academic team and a company project on a real case.
- 2Months 13 to 18: the internshipSix months in a company in France, including the final professional project and its defence.
- 3At the endThe same professional title and AI2 MSc diploma as the two-year route: RNCP39978 for Data Science and Cybersecurity, RNCP40554 for IoT.
Work-study may be available from the second year in France, subject to eligibility and a separate employer contract; admission does not guarantee a host employer.
The 11-month Fast-Track: for MCA holders who want speed
Data science only, February 2027 only.
The Fast-Track condenses Year 2 of the MSc Applied AI and Data Science into eleven months: 500 hours of courses on campus from February to June, about 70% hands-on, then six months in a company from July to December, with the jury and title at the end of December 2027. The four certification blocks keep their full 224 hours; around them, 276 hours build the data-science core from Python to generative AI and MLOps.
The programme page lists who it fits: master’s holders in computing, data, mathematics or engineering, and people working for one to five years in IT, software, data or industrial automation who want to move into AI. It also lists who should choose another route: anyone who has never programmed, needs a slower pace or part-time study, or expects paid work-study in the first year. Python, statistics and SQL are checked at the admission interview.
AI, data, cybersecurity or IoT: what each track adds to an MCA
The orientation sits in the courses and assessments; the title is named by its official wording.
| Track | What Year 2 covers | Professional title | Career directions named by AI2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Data Science | The four RNCP39978 blocks (56 h each), specialist AI tracks in NLP and Transformers, computer vision, generative AI and agents, MLOps, plus 84 h of business data | RNCP39978, Information Systems Architect for Industrial Processes | Data scientist, data analyst and BI, machine-learning engineer, AI solutions architect, generative-AI engineer |
| Cybersecurity | The four RNCP39978 blocks taught through cyber cases, plus cryptography, SOC and incident response, security of AI systems and threat intelligence | RNCP39978, Information Systems Architect for Industrial Processes | AI security engineer, detection and SOC analyst, IS and OT security architect, NIS2 compliance consultant |
| IoT | The five RNCP40554 blocks: project definition, multi-protocol ecosystems, secure platforms, supervision, IoT data with edge AI | RNCP40554, Internet of Things (IoT) Architect | IoT architect, IoT and edge-AI engineer, IoT project manager, digital-twin engineer, IoT security specialist |
The RNCP39978 blocks carry their official titles: systemic needs analysis for industrial information systems, design of the architecture of industrial information systems, prototyping and simulation of industrial information systems, and improvement of information systems in industrial processes through data and AI innovation. The France Compétences sheet lists jobs such as industrial information-systems architect, IS project manager, industrial data scientist and industrial AI engineer. Campus France notes that the value of a French diploma is guaranteed by the State when, among other cases, it is a title registered in the RNCP.
Each final year awards the AI2 MSc diploma and prepares a professional certification recognised by the French State and registered in the RNCP at level 7 (EQF 7), certified by DATAKOO, AI2’s parent company. Detailed curricula: MSc Applied AI and Data Science, MSc Applied AI & Cybersecurity and MSc Applied AI & IoT.
What each route costs in rupees
Shorter routes cost less in tuition and in months of living costs.
Rupee amounts use ₹106.2145 per euro, the FBIL reference rate published on the Reserve Bank of India website at 1.00 pm on 29 October 2026, rounded. The 18-month direct entry is charged at the MSc Year 2 tuition as a single fee, and the AI2 scholarship applies when it is your first year of enrolment.
| Route | Tuition | From, after scholarship | Time in France |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fast-Track Data Science | €12,500 (₹13.28 lakh) | €11,000 (₹11.68 lakh) before 15 November 2026 | 11 months, 5 of them on campus |
| Direct entry 18 months, Data Science or Cybersecurity | €13,000 (₹13.81 lakh) | €11,300 (₹12.00 lakh) | 18 months, 12 of them studying |
| Direct entry 18 months, IoT | €13,000 (₹13.81 lakh) | €11,800 (₹12.53 lakh) | 18 months, 12 of them studying |
| Two-year MSc | Year 1 €12,500, Year 2 €13,000 | Year 1 from €10,500 | 2 years plus the internship |
On top of tuition, the student visa requires resources of at least €877.50 a month, about ₹93,203, which is €10,530 or ₹11.18 lakh for twelve months. AI2 estimates living costs in the Paris region at about €900 to €1,700 a month, rent included. A first-year floor for the 18-month route in data science is therefore €11,300 plus €10,530, or €21,830, about ₹23.19 lakh, before flights and deposits.
The internship phase brings income: the legal minimum stipend is €4.50 an hour in 2026 (Service-Public F32131), and the AI2 programme page puts a full-time internship at about €630 to €700 a month. During the study phase, a student permit allows paid work of up to 964 hours a year (Service-Public F2713). Fee rules are on the tuition fees page and award rules on the scholarships page.
The student visa with an MCA
The same procedure as any Indian applicant, with one question to prepare more carefully.
India uses the Études en France procedure. According to Campus France India, you create your file on the Études en France portal with academic records, language skills, CV and statement of purpose, correct any anomalies flagged by Campus France, pay the processing fee once the file is validated, now INR 20,000 since 1 August 2026, then attend an in-person academic interview with your original documents. An automated email then lets you apply on France-Visas and book a VFS appointment. Campus France India asks you to submit as soon as you have an unconditional acceptance and at least three months before the intake.
| Step | Official rule |
|---|---|
| Visa issued | Long-stay visa equivalent to a residence permit (VLS-TS) marked étudiant, valid 4 months to 1 year (Service-Public F2231) |
| After arrival | Validate the VLS-TS online within three months and pay a tax |
| Resources | At least €877.50 a month, effective 1 August 2026 |
| Internship | A tripartite internship agreement sets the dates, tasks and any pay (Campus France India) |
For a February 2027 start at AI2, the priority deadline and the complete visa file are due on 30 November 2026, with enrolment and deposit by 15 December 2026. The full document list is in our France student visa guide from India; if you have worked since your MCA, our page on master’s in France for working professionals from India covers career-gap questions.
After the master’s: staying, working, returning
The rules depend on the diploma you obtain in France, not on your MCA.
Service-Public (F17319, verified 1 June 2026) describes a one-year job-search or business-creation permit for graduates holding, from a French institution, a diploma at least equivalent to a master’s. During that year you can work in a job related to your studies paid more than €2,800.53 gross a month. For Indian graduates, Campus France India describes a bilateral arrangement signed in 2015: a 12-month visa renewable once, for 24 months in total after studies.
Later, the talent permit for qualified employees (F16922) requires a master’s-level diploma obtained in France and a contract of more than three months paying at least €39,582 gross a year. If you return to India, Campus France India describes a five-year circulation visa for Indian holders of a master’s or PhD from a French institution recognised by the French authorities, for stays of up to 90 days. Details are in our guide to the France post-study work visa for Indian students.
If your first degree was a BCA and you are weighing whether to do the MCA at all, our guide to master’s in France after a BCA compares the two paths.
Frequently asked questions
Can I do a master’s in France after an MCA?
Yes. Under the India-France agreement on academic recognition, a master’s degree in India is comparable to a French master’s-level degree. Each French institution still reviews your subjects and decides admission programme by programme.
Is an MCA equivalent to a master’s in France?
At the level of the diploma, yes: Campus France India lists the master’s degree in India and the master’s or master’s-level degree in France as comparable, for degrees from recognised Indian institutions. The content is assessed by each institution.
Which year of a French master’s can an MCA holder join?
Often a later stage than a bachelor’s holder. At AI2, a master’s in a related field can open the 18-month direct entry into Year 2 and, in data science, the 11-month Fast-Track, subject to academic review and an interview.
What is AI2’s 18-month direct entry?
You join Year 2 directly: 1,000 hours in 12 months (500 hours on campus, 280 hours of online platform modules and a 220-hour company project), then a six-month internship. In IoT the phase is 920 hours.
Is the Fast-Track open to MCA holders?
The Data Science page names master’s holders in computing, data, mathematics or engineering among the profiles it fits, with Python, statistics and SQL checked at interview. It starts in February 2027 only and lasts 11 months.
Do I need an ENIC-NARIC certificate for my MCA?
Not always. Campus France explains that the ENIC-NARIC attestation is not an equivalence in itself but that some institutions require it. Ask the institution first; AI2 asks for your degree certificates, transcripts and, for direct Year 2, the course list of your degree.
How much does a master’s in France cost after an MCA?
At AI2, the 18-month direct entry is €13,000, from €11,300 after scholarship (IoT from €11,800), and the Fast-Track is €12,500, or €11,000 before 15 November 2026. The visa also requires at least €877.50 a month.
