Accepted by a French school and living in Kuwait? The route runs through the Institut français in Jabriya, then Capago in Sharq, and students can now walk in. Here is each step, the money to show in dinars, and what happens after you land.
Which visa do you need, and who applies from Kuwait?
Your place of residence selects the office; your programme length selects the visa.
Any stay above three months for a degree requires a long-stay visa. Campus France Kuwait points bachelor’s and master’s students to the VLS-TS marked étudiant, a visa that also works as a residence permit for four months to one year. For shorter courses, the France-Visas assistant tells you whether your nationality needs a visa at all.
| You are | Where you file | Identity scan for Études en France |
|---|---|---|
| Kuwaiti citizen, admitted to a French programme | Campus France Kuwait, then Capago | Kuwaiti passport |
| Foreign resident of Kuwait, not a Schengen national | Campus France Kuwait, then Capago | Passport plus both sides of the Kuwaiti civil ID |
| French baccalauréat under four years old, or French Government, EU, AUF or Erasmus Mundus scholarship | Pre-consular procedure, no fee, no interview | Same as your category |
| EU national | No visa needed; Études en France does not apply | None |
Capago Kuwait presents itself as the exclusive representative of the French Consulate for collecting visa applications in the country, and warns against other companies claiming to offer visas. The consulate decides; Capago receives files and biometrics.
The eight steps, from admission letter to Sharq
The order matters: Capago comes last.
Campus France Kuwait’s pre-consular sheet covers students who already hold an acceptance obtained outside the portal, which is the usual case with a school not connected to Études en France. If you are applying through the portal to a connected institution, steps 3 to 6 happen before the answer from the institution.
- 1Create your Études en France accountRegister with a working email, activate the link you receive, then choose “Je suis accepté(e)”, followed by the option for a paper acceptance received outside the platform.
- 2Describe your study projectSelect or describe the programme, give your dates in France and explain your motivation. Scan the acceptance letter: it must show the start date, level, programme, recruitment method and language of instruction.
- 3Upload your recordIdentity scan, photo (50 KB maximum), last transcripts and diplomas, CV, and language documents. Each study cycle is one “activity” that needs its own proof. Every file stays under 300 KB, in PDF or JPG, and in French or English.
- 4Submit and wait for validationCampus France Kuwait checks the file and messages you if anything is missing. Poor scans slow it down. Once validated, you are asked to pay.
- 5Pay the file feeKWD 70 by bank card at the reception of the Institut français, or by transfer with your name and your “KW” file number, then email the proof to the address on the sheet. The fee is non-refundable, even after a visa refusal.
- 6Attend the interview in JabriyaBook your own slot online. Bring your ID, the receipt, the convocation and every original you scanned. The interview authenticates documents and tests your motivation, study project and language level. Attendance in person is compulsory.
- 7Fill in France-VisasAfter the interview, download your Études en France attestation and wait for the message authorising the visa request. Then complete the long-stay form on France-Visas, the official site named by the French Embassy.
- 8Lodge at CapagoArraya Shopping Centre, Tower 1, Al Shuhada Street, Sharq. Capago’s site lists the 24th floor; the 2019 sheet says the 26th, so check before you go. Bring the attestation and all documents on your France-Visas list.
What belongs in the file?
Each document has a stage where someone checks it.
Two lists overlap. Campus France wants evidence of your academic project; Capago wants the attestation plus whatever France-Visas generates for your case. The France-Visas receipt is the final authority, because it reflects your nationality and situation.
| Document | Campus France | Capago | Detail to get right |
|---|---|---|---|
| Passport | Scan, original at interview | Original | Campus France asks you to check validity before you start |
| Civil ID (residents) | Scan of both sides | As listed on France-Visas | Bring the original to the interview |
| Acceptance letter | Scan | As listed | Must state the language of instruction |
| Transcripts and diplomas | Scan, originals at interview | As listed | Arabic documents need translation into French or English |
| CV and motivation | Yes | Only if France-Visas lists it | Explain why this programme, in French or English |
| Language certificates | Yes | Only if France-Visas lists it | For an English-taught course, the proof your school accepted |
| Études en France attestation | Issued after the interview | Required | Capago’s notice lists it first for student files |
| Proof of resources | Not on the sheet | As listed on France-Visas | At least €877.50 a month |
On translations, Campus France Kuwait publishes a sheet of translators whose signature is registered with the French Embassy; check that it is still current before you commission work. Our guide to proof of funds for a France student visa covers sponsor letters, and our list of Campus France interview questions will help you prepare for Jabriya.
Practical rules on the day
- Access to the centre is reserved for applicants, so parents wait outside unless you are a minor. Minors must come with a legal guardian or an authorised representative.
- Suitcases and travel bags are not allowed, and there are no lockers. Phones may be restricted in some areas.
- A biometric Schengen visa issued less than 59 months ago can spare you new biometric capture.
How much does the procedure cost?
Only three lines are compulsory, plus the consular fee.
Figures in dinars use 343.529 fils per euro, the Central Bank of Kuwait rate of 29 October 2026.
| Fee | Amount | Paid to | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Études en France file fee | KWD 70 | Institut français du Koweït | Required unless exempt; figure from the 2019 sheet, so confirm in your account |
| Consular visa fee | See the France-Visas fee table | Paid on the day at Capago | Kept by the consulate, even if the visa is refused |
| Capago service fee | €28, about KWD 10 | Capago | Mandatory for all visa applications |
| France-Visas form assistance | KWD 5.300 | Capago | Optional |
| Document check | KWD 12.300 | Capago | Optional |
| Passport delivery | KWD 5.700 | Capago | Optional |
| VLS-TS validation tax | €100, about KWD 34 | French State, online | Required after arrival |
None of the optional services changes the outcome. Capago itself states that obtaining a visa depends only on the consulate’s review, even when a file is complete.
How much money must you show in dinars?
France sets the rule in euros, so convert at a recent rate.
Service-Public, verified 1 August 2026, sets the student minimum at €877.50 a month. That is about KWD 301 a month, or about KWD 3,617 for twelve months. The Central Bank of Kuwait explains that the dinar follows an undisclosed weighted basket of currencies, so this figure moves with the market. Leave a margin rather than showing the exact minimum.
Tuition is separate from those resources. If you have paid part of your fees, keep the receipt with your file. A student starting at a public university on a master’s fee of €3,950, about KWD 1,357, should budget about KWD 4,974 for tuition and twelve months of resources, before flights. At AI2, a first MSc year after scholarship from €10,500 gives a planning floor of €21,030, about KWD 7,224.
When should you file for a 2027 start?
Count back from the date in your letter, not from the month.
The sheet from Campus France Kuwait says the file should reach Capago no later than three weeks before your programme starts and no earlier than three months before it. It also asks you to finish the pre-consular step at least three weeks before departure, and warns that waits grow during busy periods, especially summer. The French Embassy adds that a visa request can be lodged up to six months before departure. Treat the shorter window as the safe one, and ask if your dates are tight.
| Your start | Open the Études en France file | Aim for Capago | AI2 milestones |
|---|---|---|---|
| February 2027 | As soon as you have the letter | November to January, according to your exact start date | Priority deadline and complete visa file 30 November 2026; enrolment and deposit 15 December 2026 |
| May 2027 | January or earlier | February to April | Dates sent by admissions on request |
| September 2027 | May or earlier | June to August, expecting summer waits | Dates sent by admissions on request |
Capago publishes its closure days each year. Sunday 1 November 2026 is on the list, and Kuwaiti national holidays in late February can fall right before a spring start, so check the list before you plan your visit.
The February Fast-Track scholarship closes on 15 November 2026, which matters if you are aiming for AI2’s 11-month format in data science. Details are on the tuition fees page.
What do you do after landing in France?
The visa is not finished when you board.
- 1Validate the VLS-TS onlineYou have three months from arrival. Pay the €100 tax during the online step (Service-Public F2231). Campus France warns that you need this validation to travel outside France after those three months.
- 2Work within the limitThe student permit allows up to 964 hours a year (Service-Public F2713). Campus France Kuwait gives 20 hours a week as a guide. Our page on working while studying in France explains the details.
- 3Renew in timeAfter a year you request a temporary student card or a multi-year card of two to four years, with resources of at least €877.50 a month still required.
- 4Keep equivalency recordsIf you need Kuwaiti equivalency, keep each enrolment letter and proof of residence. Our guide to studying in France from Kuwait explains the ministry’s requirements and the cultural office in Paris.
What if your visa is refused?
There are two levels of appeal, with deadlines.
Campus France Kuwait explains the remedies. Since 1 November 2016, consular authorities must give reasons when they refuse a student visa. A refusal is express if you receive a written notice, and implicit if you have no answer within two months of lodging your request. You can first ask the consul to review the decision. If that fails, you can write to the Commission de recours contre les décisions de refus de visa within two months of the refusal, in French. This step is compulsory before going to an administrative judge.
Tell your school straight away. At AI2, deposit and refund conditions, including what happens if a visa is refused, are set out in your admission letter, so read them before you pay. The French Consulate’s telephone service does not take calls about visas, so use France-Visas and Capago for tracking. Our visa guidance page summarises how AI2 supports admitted students.
Applying to AI2 from Kuwait
Your admission letter is the document that starts everything.
AI2 admits you directly: online application, online interview, then a written admission letter stating the programme, intake, tuition and any scholarship. That letter opens the pre-consular route above. It should state English as the language of instruction, which Campus France Kuwait asks for; request a corrected copy if it does not.
Programmes are taught in English on the Écouen campus, 22 minutes from Paris Gare du Nord. Intakes are planned for February, May and September 2027, and the MSc leads to a level 7 RNCP title, master’s level (EQF 7). The MSc Applied AI and Data Science page and the Bachelor in Applied AI page give entry rules.
