Mongolia is not on Campus France’s list of countries using the Études en France procedure, so the path from Ulaanbaatar is short: AI2 admission, then a visa application handed in directly at the French Embassy. The catch is practical rather than administrative, since the embassy’s visa desk receives applicants on only three mornings a week.
AI2 – Applied Institute of Artificial Intelligence is an applied AI school on the Écouen campus, 22 minutes from Paris Gare du Nord. Its programmes are taught in English and prepare French State qualifications registered with France Compétences (RNCP) at level 6 (bachelor’s level) and level 7 (master’s level).
Applying from Mongolia: what is specific to you
No Études en France step
Campus France’s own FAQ names the 75 countries where applications run through Études en France, and Mongolia is not one of them. In the shared step-by-step list on this page, step 3 therefore resolves simply: after your AI2 admission letter, you go straight to the long-stay student visa form on France-Visas.
Handing in your visa file in Ulaanbaatar
France-Visas confirms that applications made in Mongolia are examined by the French Embassy in Ulaanbaatar, with no outside visa company in between. Practical points from that page:
- The visa service is at 15 Peace Avenue (Avenue de la Paix), Chingeltei district.
- Files are received by appointment only, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 to 11:30.
- Passports are collected without an appointment on the same three days, from 11:30 to 12:00.
- The processing fee is paid in cash only, in tugrik at the chancery rate; cheques and bank cards are refused.
- For a long-stay visa, allow 21 days between handing in your file and leaving, and request your appointment as soon as you know your dates.
From the General Entrance Exam to an AI2 programme
Mongolian school leavers sit the General Entrance Exam, whose date the Education Evaluation Center sets once each academic year; the Ministry of Education makes the Mongolian language and writing test compulsory for every candidate. Those results and your certificate of complete secondary education, with mathematics, are what the Bachelor in Applied AI application asks for.
At the National University of Mongolia, a bachelor’s degree takes four years of full-time study and at least 130 credits. In a related field, such a degree is the entry point for the MSc Applied AI, and because four years of related higher education is also the threshold for the 11-month Fast-Track (January start), graduates may be considered for it, subject to the academic team’s review. Students who have finished two years of university can look at the BSc final year instead.
Paperwork, English tests and the journey
Mongolia has been party to the Hague Apostille Convention since 31 December 2009, so an apostille is the usual way to authenticate a Mongolian public document if a certified copy is requested. For English, the IELTS Centre at the National University of Mongolia (ground floor, 4th Dormitory Building Extension) takes bookings through the British Council portal. Paris Aéroport lists no airline flying non-stop between Ulaanbaatar and Paris, so plan for at least one connection, then a short trip from Gare du Nord to Écouen.
