Finished, or about to finish, FSc, ICS or A-levels? You can go straight into the first year of a bachelor’s in France. Which school certificates count, how IBCC attestation and equivalence work, the two Campus France Pakistan routes, the budget in rupees and the visa.
Can you study a bachelor’s in France straight after Intermediate?
HSSC opens Licence 1; the institution sets the rest of the bar.
Yes. French national degrees follow the European LMD structure: a Licence (bachelor’s) takes three years and 180 ECTS credits, a master’s two more years. Campus France Pakistan’s rule for Pakistani applicants is simple: HSSC-level holders apply to the first year of a bachelor’s (Licence 1), and bachelor’s holders to Master 1. Twelve years of school are the standard starting point, so you do not need a year of university in Pakistan first.
Campus France Pakistan also encourages you to hold certificates recognised by IBCC, the Inter Boards Coordination Commission, and reminds applicants that there is no bilateral agreement between France and Pakistan on the recognition of degrees: each French institution admits Pakistani students on its own requirements. It describes two systems side by side, public universities and grandes écoles, plus other public and private institutions that focus on specific fields.
Two practical points for school leavers. Campus France Pakistan reminds students that French higher education expects a lot of autonomy, especially at public universities. And the grading scale runs from 0 to 20, with 10 as the pass mark, so a strong Pakistani percentage will look different on a French transcript.
Which school certificates count, and how does IBCC read them?
Pakistani boards: attestation. British boards: equivalence, then attestation.
Pakistani boards and British boards are both accepted as entry documents, but the British route needs one extra step: the IBCC equivalence certificate, which converts your results into the Pakistani system.
| Your qualification | What IBCC does | Good to know for a bachelor’s in France |
|---|---|---|
| Matric plus FSc Pre-Engineering | Attests SSC and HSSC after board verification | Mathematics and physics suit computing, engineering and data programmes |
| Matric plus ICS | Attests SSC and HSSC; Computer Science with Physics and Mathematics is the HSSC Computer Science group | The most direct fit for computer science and AI bachelor’s programmes |
| Matric plus FSc Pre-Medical | Attests SSC and HSSC | Check whether the programme asks for mathematics before you apply |
| O levels and A levels | Issues the equivalence certificate: at least 8 O level subjects (5 compulsory, 3 elective) and 3 A levels; grades A* to E only | Bring the equivalence certificate; IBCC attests foreign qualifications only with it |
| American High School Diploma or IB Diploma | Evaluates the transcript (US) or the diploma and its core components (IB) | Pakistani students at US-system schools in Pakistan also need Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies at SSC or O level, plus two Advanced Placement courses |
How IBCC attestation works
- 1Board verification firstYour board (BISE) must verify the certificate and make the verification available on the IBCC attestation portal before IBCC acts.
- 2Apply onlineFill in the form on attest.ibcc.edu.pk, pay the fee by mobile banking or bank challan, and choose appointment, courier or express.
- 3Bring the originalsThe printed form, original certificates and mark sheets with one copy, the paid challan and copies of your and your father’s CNIC. Only blood relatives may apply on your behalf.
- 4CollectSame day at an appointment, within 10 working days by courier, or within an hour with the express service. Regional offices in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Bahawalpur and Quetta also attest.
IBCC only attests certificates from recognised boards, not documents issued by private institutions. If you are still in your final HSSC year, start with SSC now and add HSSC as soon as results are out.
Public university or private school: which Études en France tab?
Public catalogue on one tab, direct admissions on the other.
Every Pakistani applicant to a programme longer than three months goes through Études en France with Campus France Pakistan. Which tab you use depends on whether you still need an admission or already hold one:
| “I am applying” (Candidature) | “I am accepted” (Pre-consular) | |
|---|---|---|
| For | Public universities listed in the Études en France catalogue | A direct admission from an institution outside the catalogue |
| Choices | Up to 3 bachelor’s programmes | One final letter of acceptance |
| Calendar | Opens 1 October 2026, closes 18 November 2026; results by 30 April 2027; final choice by 31 May 2027 | Closes 30 December 2026 for January to March 2027 starts and 30 August 2027 for September to November 2027 starts |
| Length | Up to 7 months | Up to 3 months |
| Fee | PKR 30,000, not refundable | PKR 30,000, not refundable; for private institutions the admission is final once tuition is paid |
The Candidature campaign suits students who want a public Licence starting in autumn 2027. The pre-consular tab suits students who already hold an offer, including for spring starts, which the Candidature calendar does not cover. In both cases the Campus France Pakistan review includes an academic interview; our list of Campus France interview questions helps you prepare.
English, and the language of the programme
Campus France Pakistan notes that many French programmes are taught in English, but check the language of each bachelor’s you consider. Its pre-consular checklist lists an IELTS or other English-language certificate among the uploads, while institutions set their own English rules. If you studied in an English-medium school, read studying in France without IELTS before you book a test.
What does a bachelor’s in France cost in rupees?

Over three years, a public Licence costs about €8,706 in tuition, around PKR 2.68 million, and the visa living funds add €31,590, around PKR 9.73 million. Campus France Pakistan gives €150 to €600 a month for a Crous room and €400 to €1,200 for a private studio, and says health insurance is free for international students. The full line-by-line budget, including the AEG charge, the CVEC and what you can earn on 964 hours of work a year, is in our cost of studying in France for Pakistani students guide.
How does the student visa work for a bachelor’s student?
Études en France, then France-Visas, AEG and the consulate.
Campus France Pakistan confirms that students admitted to a bachelor’s programme apply for the long-stay student visa (VLS-TS), and that Études en France is mandatory first. Once your file is validated:
- 1France-Visas formComplete the online application on the France-Visas website.
- 2AEG appointmentBook through AEG; it gives student appointments only after the Études en France step and ranks students by the course start date on the Études en France certificate.
- 3Interview in IslamabadAttend the interview at the French Consulate in the Diplomatic Enclave with your documents: passport, acceptance letter, six months of bank statements or a guarantor’s affidavit, CV, cover letter, all transcripts (SSC, HSSC), NADRA Family Registration Certificate and the OFII form.
- 4DecisionThe consulate decides between two weeks and two months after the interview; you collect the passport from AEG. In France, validate the visa online within three months and pay the €100 tax.
Your passport should be valid for at least 18 months after the academic intake, as the pre-consular page asks. The full procedure, with AEG offices and fees, is in our France student visa from Pakistan guide.
Where AI2 fits after FSc, ICS or A-levels
Three years in English near Paris, from Python to a State-recognised level 6 title.
AI2, the Applied Institute of Artificial Intelligence, runs a three-year Bachelor in Applied AI taught 100% in English on its campus at the Hub Nikola Tesla in Écouen, 22 minutes from Paris Gare du Nord. Year 1 is open after secondary school with mathematics: Grade 12, A-levels or equivalent. AI2’s guide for Pakistani students places Matric plus FSc or ICS with mathematics, and O and A levels with the IBCC equivalence certificate, at Year 1 entry.
| Year | What you study | Tuition 2027 | In rupees |
|---|---|---|---|
| Year 1, Data & AI or Industrial IT | 420 guided hours, about 14 hours a week: mathematics, Python, SQL, Git, Linux, data visualisation, a first Flask web app; or Python, networks, electricity, sensors and PLCs | €9,000 | PKR 2,772,323 |
| Year 2 | Data & AI: R, advanced SQL, MongoDB, Power BI, cloud data. Industrial IT: data engineering, industrial protocols, APIs, machine learning | €9,000 | PKR 2,772,323 |
| Year 3, professional final year | BSc AI-Powered Application Development (RNCP37873) or BSc Data Analytics & Applied AI (RNCP41370), with a company placement | €9,900 | PKR 3,049,555 |
Three years of AI2 tuition come to €27,900 before scholarships, about PKR 8.59 million. Every international candidate is assessed automatically for the AI2 scholarship (excellence, early application); the amount is stated in the admission letter and applies to the first year of enrolment. Work-study becomes possible from Year 2 when an employer signs a contract, which then covers tuition, though it is never guaranteed. Funding is compared in our Bachelor scholarships guide.
Entry rules, in AI2’s words
- Year 1: a secondary-school leaving certificate with mathematics, or science for the Industrial IT track.
- English: B2 level, shown by IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 72 or English-medium schooling. French is not required.
- Selection: a file review and an online interview.
- Progress: a pass mark of 10/20 per semester, with resits in June; each year must be validated to move up.
- Intakes: February, May and September 2027; for February the priority deadline is 30 November 2026.
The final year awards the AI2 diploma and prepares a professional certification recognised by the French State and registered in the RNCP at level 6 (EQF 6), listed by France Compétences as “TP Concepteur développeur d’applications” (RNCP37873) and “TP Développeur intégrateur en informatique industrielle” (RNCP41370). Graduates can then apply to the AI2 MSc, at level 7.
